As part of our drive to attract the most promising
students, promote our research and forge new links with business and
industry, we have developed close relationships with talented people and
likeminded organizations across the world.
Wherever possible, we aim to bring researchers together across
disciplines, allowing exciting new connections and developments to be
made that might otherwise have been missed.
Research is expensive. We help to fund our research by a balanced
portfolio of external income and funds. We collaborate closely with
industry and this allows us to maintain an enterprise agenda, while HIT
provides dedicated support through research council.
Research supports enterprise activity across HIT and the exchange of
knowledge between HIT and business for the benefit of the economy and
society. Support is provided through research contract management,
consultancy development, intellectual property protection,
commercializing research through the creation of new companies and
licensing, and the facilitation of a portfolio of modes of
collaboration, including knowledge transfer partnerships, engineering
doctorates and industry-driven master’s courses.
Research Council assists academic and research staff to source, apply
for and manage external funding from a variety of sponsors.
Support is as flexible as possible and includes:
Identifying and circulating sources of funding to the wider
research community and to individuals for specific projects
Delivering funding opportunities seminars
Assistance and advice on preparing funding applications, meeting sponsor
requirements and complying with terms and conditions, the costing and
pricing of research including calculating projects budgets and the
requirements for full economic costing
Providing one-to-one support with all aspects of the application
process, ensuring that each bid is as strong as possible
Obtaining authorization for grant applications on behalf of the
University and the submission of required documentation
Guidance and support with all aspects of post-award management
Liaising with external agencies and handling queries to and from
sponsors
attending research funding events to obtain up to date information for
dissemination.
