Teaching Excellence
Thirteen subject areas at Degree level have been implemented in this institute to provide a wide array of academic choice to the budding students. HIT’s leading edge mix of classroom and lab facilities helps students to directly benefit from the latest academic work undertaken and taught by leading faculties, many of whom are distinguished academicians in their domain.

The Institute Amidst Industries
HIT is located at the heart of the port city, Haldia, 120 Kms from Kolkata and is the major industrial hub of Eastern India. Haldia is the nerve center of industrial activities of region and is growing rapidly in all avenues. The instituted is strategically located for effective Industry-Institute interaction. Haldia houses various Industry major like Exide Industries Ltd., Haldia Dock Complex, Indian Oil Corporation, Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd., South Asian Petro Chemicals Ltd., Tata Chemicals Ltd., Renuka Sugars Ltd., and many more.

Infrastructure of the Institute
The institute is an enclave Campus of 49 acres of land having an Administrative Block of 2787 m2 and 9 Academic Blocks having and area of around 24980 m2, residential area of around 3740 m2 and hostel area of 24315 m2. Hostel facility is available for both boys and girls. There are 10 nos. Boys’ hostel and 02 nos. Girls’ hostel to accommodate student.

Facilities of Modern Amenities Complex (area of 1830 sqmt) Departmental Store, Post Office, Laundry facility, Medical Stores, Saloons and Restaurant etc. The campus is also equipped with its own electrical sub-station having a capacity of 500 KVA. Emergency power supply is available through the institute’s own DG power supply of 425 KVA. State-of-the-art central as well as departmental computing facility with more than 850 computers. Campus-wide Internet facilities for all through 8 MBPS high speed leased line from BSNL are available for 24 hour. It includes student’s hostels & Faculty Staff Qtr also.

Sophisticated and ultramodern multigym is housed in the gymnasia for Regular physical exercises. Facilities of modern Amenities Complex with Departmental Store, Post Office, Bank with ATM facilities, Laundry, Medical Stores, Salons, and Restaurant. The Institute is located at the heart of the city of Haldia, a major port and nerve center of industrial activities of Eastern India.

The Institute is envisaged to have better Industry-Institute interaction, as it is encircled by giant industry houses like Indian Oil corporation Limited-Haldia Refinery, Haldia Petrochemicals Limited, Exide Industries Limited, Consolidated Fibres and Chemicals Limited, Tata Chemicals, Hind Lever Chemicals Limited, Mitshubishi Chemicals, South Asian Petrochemicals, Reliance, MP Glychem Industries Ltd, Haldia Dock Complex of Calcutta Port Trust and many others. The institute is well connected to Kolkata and Kharagpur by rail and road. It and also be reached via Raichak. Class rooms are at par with modern standards and provided with overhead as well as multimedia projection facilities. Central workshop facility for fabricating research equipment.

Central Library
The institute has a library that’s awes everyone. There is a separate central library building with 40, 000 sq. ft. Dedicated space having 50, 000 books, 10, 000 reference books and 125 periodicals adorning the shelves. There is also a digital library which adds another feather to the institute cap, having a Subscription of 10000 e-journals under AICTEINDEST Consortium.

The library has its own Home page and the users can navigate it through the Campus LAN. Library has also started functioning its Digital Library services with the procurement of IBM e – server with relevant digital library software i.e., Teach-Focuz Digital Library ver.3.2, offering numerous services like e-books, LRs, Video Lectures, Question papers, books accompanied CDs, language learning CDs etc.

It operates a Book Bank Scheme allowing each student to borrow 5 text books for entire semester. Students belonging to SC/ ST and OBC are entitled to be issue extra books from a separate collection under TEQIP TDP funded by the World Bank.

The library is fully automated with LIBSYS (college ed.) software and its Web Based Online Public Access Catalog (WEB-OPAC) facility is recently augmented to view library catalog from anywhere in the Campus LAN. Reading room facility is available beyond class hours also.
